Stained Grass Window

 stained grass window (380x286).jpg

The story of how Stained Grass Window came to be is essentially that of a happy accident. Our origins lie at an event local to us called the Jerseytown shindig. This monthly jam provided the opportunity for a chance meeting between Mark Doncheski and Mary Hermann. Mary is an ER doctor with an interest in bluegrass and acoustic music. Mark had been playing bluegrass in an organized setting as a bass player for the band Dark Hollow. A third individual, Ken Shafranko, was fulfilling a long simmering ambition to learn the dobro and he, too, found himself at the same jam. The year was 1990 when these three made each other's acquaintance. At Mary's invitation they found themselves at her house from time to time just for the enjoyment of playing together. A fourth individual, Tom Harhart, would join these sessions. Tom was a fairly accomplished player on just about anything with strings from banjo to mandolin to guitar to dobro. And he could sing.

Providing the musical entertainment on Wednesday 8/12 is Williamsport-based variety band “TOP SHELF”. This four-piece act formed in 2006 plays what they call “the good stuff” -  a great mix of Golden Oldies from the 50’s and 60’s, rock classics from the 70’s and 80’s, and many popular country standards. It’s a combination that has proven to please past audiences all around North-Central PA.  “TOP SHELF” is led by guitarist and vocalist Rick Wapinsky from Loyalsock.  John Collins is our talented singing drummer from Selinsgrove who keeps the show moving as our MC. Montgomery resident Todd Steward handles keyboards, acoustic and electric rhythm guitars, and vocals. Sonestown’s Jerry Peterman holds down the bottom on bass guitar and provides harmony vocals.

“TOP SHELF” has appeared at carnivals for 25 different fire companies to date and has performed for Knoebel’s, Towanda’s Riverfest,  Lock Haven’s Regatta, Canton’s Apple & Cheese Festival, Montoursville’s Fall Festival, and Community Days in Turbotville  and McAlisterville just to mention a few! Their appearance at the Montour-DeLong Fair is their second. The band is in rotation at several clubs for dances and perform at private functions as well. Find the band at their website topshelfpa.com and on Facebook. Join us for an evening of  fun and great music!
